Department of Trauma and Critical Care Center
In 2002, our emergency medical center was changed to the nationally designated Department of Trauma and Critical Care Center. The Center is always ready to provide prompt and smooth medical treatment to patients brought in by emergency crews. With its 20 beds, the Center offers medical care to emergency patients by obtaining the cooperation of all the clinical departments of the University Hospital.
Center of Perinatal Medicine
In 1997 the Center for Perinatal Medicine was opened by the request of Tochigi Prefecture in order to provide high-risk pregnant women and premature babies with advanced medical care consistently both before and after childbirth beyond the conventional boundary of obstetrics and pediatrics. The Obstetrics Department has the obstetrical intensive care unit (OICU), and the Neonatal Department has the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). A medically equipped ambulance is also available to transfer patients while giving them medical treatment. The Center for Perinatal Medicine is always ready to transfer safely and accept premature babies born in Tochigi Pref., neonatal infants with severe congenital diseases, and high-risk pregnant women.
Children's Medical Center
In the Center Ward completed in 2004 there is Tochigi Children's Medical Center, where various functions of pediatric care are concentrated. Tochigi Children's Medical Center, always ready to cope with a variety of pediatric diseases, plays an important part in advanced specialized medical care.
P.E.T.Center
In 2005 the P.E.T (positron emission tomography) Center was opened chiefly for cancer detection. "PET" is a new and powerful large diagnostic apparatus that can swiftly and precisely detect a malignant tumor in its early stage without missing even a small one in whichever part of the body it may be.
This apparatus is also very effective in analyzing brain conditions and drug kinetics. In addition to a large cyclotron, the latest device in which PET and CT(computerized tomography) are combined has been introduced. Equipped with such large advanced medical equipment, P.E.T Center is expected to play a leading part in the detection and treatment of cancer in the North Kanto area.
Center for Optical Medicine
The former Endoscopy Division and the Ultrasound Laboratory of the Clinical Laboratory Division were combined into the Center for Optical Medicine on October 1, 2001.
The Endoscopy Section provides endoscopic diagnosis and treatment in the gastroenterological and respiratory fields.
Certified by the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society and the Japanese Respiratory Society, the Center for Optical Medicine ensures patient-oriented quality diagnosis and treatment by a large number of medical instructors, medical specialists and certified medical doctors.
The Ultrasound Section consists of the Cardiac Ultrasound Unit, the Abdominal Ultrasound Unit and the Body Surface Ultrasound Unit. Ultrasonic tests are conducted not only by the medical doctors of different clinical departments but also by the Ultrasound Section.
Clinical Training Center
The Clinical Training Center was established because clinical training became compulsory in 2004. It has conference rooms, meeting rooms, study rooms for medical interns, night duty rooms and so on.
Here, trainee doctors can acquire basic clinical abilities and attitude as a doctor, have training for primary care, and gain effective basic clinical experiences to become a specialist in the future. In the study rooms for medical interns, a personnel computer is provided to each intern for improved training environment.
School in Hospital
The Dokkyo Medical University Branch Classroom of Tochigi School for Handicapped Children was opened in Tochigi Children's Medical Center ward. The school was named "Hibari (skylark) Branch Classroom", wishing the children studying here to be like skylarks in the spring field. Meticulous education is carried out according to the children's physical condition and progress.
