Message from the head of office

     The department of Otorhinolaryngology at Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center was established in 1984, and is one of the largest departments in Saitama. Our department provides advanced medical technology and contributes to the development of community medicine.
      There were more than 1,000 surgical procedures performed last year. The middle ear surgery team, consisting of certificated ear surgeon, provides excellent surgical techniques for treating middle ear cholesteatoma to preserve the middle ear function. We perform more than 100 middle ear surgeries annually and are recently increasing the number of cochlea implantations. The specialized team for rhinology provides minimally invasive surgery under endoscope and operates on more than 350 cases annually, with a variety of sinus diseases.
      The specialized team for head and neck cancer performed more than 130 surgeries for advanced cancers last year. Besides radical surgery, we perform larynx-preserving surgery to protect  vocal function, to the greatest extent possible.

1. Clinical treatment

  • Our department is designated as an authorized training facility by both the Japan Otological Society and The Japanese Rhinologic Society.
  • It is possible to be certificated as both an ear surgeon and a sinus surgeon.
  • We perform more than 100 cases of middle ear surgery and 350 cases of endoscopic sinus surgery annually.
  • We performed more than 130 surgeries for advanced cancers last year.
  • In addition to radiotherapy, concurrent chemotherapy is also performed.

Characteristics of the section

     Our department performs surgery on more than 1,000 cases annually, including 100 cases with middle ear disease, 350 cases with nasal or sinus disorder and 130 cases with head and neck cancers. We are especially well known for middle ear surgery for cholesteatoma, and many patients come to the hospital not only from Saitama but also from all over the country.
      Our department is designated as an authorized training facility by both the Japan Otological Society and The Japanese Rhinologic Society. Therefore, if you perform middle ear surgery and/or sinus surgery at our facility, you will be able to qualify as a certificated ear surgeon and/or sinus surgeon.
