Historical Perspective of Mibu

The level of medical care was highly developed in Mibu as it was here that the Shoguns recuperated on their return to Edo after visiting Nikko.

A book on human anatomy from the Edo period was also discovered in Mibu.
Mibu was the first place in Japan to have female nurses.

The history of the Dokkyo Group of Academic Institutions is its driving force for the future.

The history of Dokkyo Gakuen (Dokkyo Group of Academic Institutions) started with the birth of the Doitsu­-Gaku Kyokai (German Studies Association), which was founded in 1881 to promote Western and in particular, German studies in Japan. In 1883, the Association founded the Doitsu-Gaku Kyokai Gakko (German Studies Association School), which aimed to develop capable individuals.

1881 The Doitsu-Gaku Kyokai (German Studies Association)was established by intellectual leaders such as Amane Nishi, Taro Katsura and Hiroyuki Kato for the purpose of studying German culture.
1883 The Doitsu-Gaku Kyokai Gakko (German Studies Association School) was founded, and Amane Nishi became the first Principal of the school (Later he became President of the Imperial Academy).
1964 Dokkyo University was founded in Soka and Teiyu Amano became the first President.
1973 Dokkyo Medical University was founded in Mibu.
1974 Nursing School Affiliated to Dokkyo Medical University was founded. Dokkyo Medical University Hospital was opened.
1984 Dokkyo Medical University Koshigaya Hospital (now Saitama Medical Center) was opened.
2006 Dokkyo Medical University Nikko Medical Center was opened.
2015 Misato Nursing School Affiliated to Dokkyo Medical University was founded in Misato.
