     Our department has 21 dermatologists and is the only facility to handle more than 20 inpatients in the south-east of Saitama prefecture, which has more than seven million people. In addition, our hospital is located very close to a station which hosts two railway lines. For these reasons, a large variety of patients with rare, severe or common but intractable dermatosis visit our clinic. Two specialists of skin surgery treat more than 250 patients per year with skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, extramammary Paget’s disease, angiosarcoma, and others. In addition to skin cancer, we are subjected to the medical care of hospitalized patients with severe dermatosis, such as pemphigus, pemphigoid, severe types of drug eruption, dermatomyositis, systemic scleroderma. We believe that our department is one of the best facilities in which to learn practical dermatology. Many young dermatologists are learning and working for the patients as well as themselves professionally.

• Atopic dermatitis
• Psoriasis
• Skin cancer
• Nail disorder

2. Treatment of in-patients: 21 patients/day

3. Surgery of skin cancer: 276 patients/year

4. Basic research

• Permeability barrier function and itch of atopic dermatitis
• Roles of sex hormone: estrogen, progesterone and androgen for the skin of menopause, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis

5. Clinical research

• Establishment of algorithm for treatment of prurigo
• Establishment of algorithm for treatment of psoriasis
• Optimizing surgical treatment for skin cancer
• Analysis of responsible genes in patients with recalcitrant fever

 6. Education
School of Medicine:

1st year	Treatment of in-patients and supporting role for treatment of out-patients under the mentorship of a specialist Conference of clinical pictures and dermatopathology
2nd year	Treatment of out-patient in addition to tasks of 1st year
