Message from the Head of the Department

Our mission is to advance the health and well-being of neonates, infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and their families through providing first-rate clinical care, innovative research, and education. Our responsibility is serious because Children carry the future in the world. We provide medical care through our pediatrics staff in good faith to protect the future of children.

Activities

Clinical Activities
Pediatricians take a comprehensive view of healthcare issues and treat patients during development through the fetal, neonatal, infant, school-age, and adolescent periods, leading to adulthood. Therefore, pediatricians both treat diseases and take care of the growth and development of children. At our hospital, we provide outpatient services as general practitioners, as well as specialized practice in our respective subspecialties. Outpatient departments include specialists in allergy, rheumatism, immunology, neurology, childhood psychiatry, endocrinology, metabolism, cardiovascular medicine, nephrology, gastrointestinal medicine, hepatology, hematology, and oncology.
Forty-two beds are reserved for admission of pediatric patients and the emergency unit also offers 24-hour care. An attending physician forms a group for inpatient treatment and holds daily conferences. Professors and associate professors make their rounds twice a week. All medical staff provides healthcare under instructions from specialists of various departments.
Our hospital includes departments of otolaryngology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery, as well as pediatric surgery and urology. Therefore, we are able to treat diseases promptly through surgery in cooperation with these specialties. We also have a perinatal care medical center with 9 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and 9 growing care units (GCUs). Through these facilities, we contribute to the enhancement of local medical care.

Characteristics

Our hospital is a core specialized hospital in the eastern Saitama area that provides advanced healthcare as a tertiary care hospital. We also serve as a local medical center in Koshigaya city, since the city has a large population of children, but few pediatricians. Medical care collaboration is required for local healthcare. Therefore, we work with nearby clinics, including Touto Kasukabe Hospital, Koshigaya Municipal Hospital, Soka Municipal Hospital, and Kasukabe Medical Center for acute diseases; Saitama Prefectural Children’s Medical Center, Kawaguchi Municipal Medical Center, and Saitama Municipal Perinatal Medical Center for neonatal medical care; and Nakagawanosato Remedial Teaching Center and Tokyo Metropolitan Kita Rehabilitation Medical Center for the care of children with disabilities.
As a university-affiliated hospital, we also serve as a research and educational center. Clinical studies are conducted in many departments, including allergy, neurology, and endocrinology, and our findings are published domestically and internationally. Our staff provides enthusiastic leadership to residents and students in this work.
