Department of Nephrology

Head of the Department: Tetsuro Takeda MD, PhD

Message from the Head of the Department

Introduction
Department of Nephrology at Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center (former Dokkyo Medical University Koshigaya Hospital) was established in Nov 2010. As the head of the department, I would like to introduce our department. We have many patients referred from various clinics and hospitals because there are few medical institutions which specializes in diagnosing and treating kidney disease around in the eastern part of Saitama prefecture. We believe that it is very important to diagnose chronic kidney disease (CKD), which can be considered a national disease, at an earlier stage and to expand cooperation with clinics and hospitals in the surrounding areas.

Face each patient thoroughly
It is one of the characteristics of Nephrology that nephrologist engage in treatment of each patient for many years. In our department, we are involved from early stage to terminal stage of the CKD, that is, diagnosis of proteinuria and/or hematuria at first, then treatment of CKD, moreover, initiation of renal replacement therapy and dialysis management. Due to the aging of the patient population and the increasing sophistication of medical care, the number of patients referred from other departments is increasing.

Our hope
As a central institution that provides medical care, education, and research for kidney disease patients in the eastern part of Saitama, we will not only contribute to the medical care of the region, but will also take steps to become a leader in the field of nephrology in Japan.
