Department of Ophthalmology

Head of the Office: Tadashi Senoo, MD, PhD

Message from the Head of the Office

Our department was founded in 1974 at the same time as the hospital was established. We provide cutting edge medical care in Japan. In particular, we provide medical care and education specializing in eye surgery. Among them, we are focusing on cataract, keratoconjunctival disease, refractive correction, retinal vitreous disease, macular disease, and uveal disease. We perform more than 2500 surgeries a year. Therefore, from the early stages of training, our department thoroughly educates outpatient / ward operations and surgery in each specialized field. Most residents will be able to perform many procedures, including cataract surgery, at the end of the first year of late training. From the second year onwards, they will be engaged in surgery and research in areas of interest, including vitreoretinal surgery and corneal surgery. In addition, they will acquire more advanced ophthalmology expertise and skills under the supervision of an instructor after the end of the second term training. There are also medical staff who are aiming for new fields and taking on challenges. My philosophy is to develop truly excellent ophthalmologists. Depending on your efforts, you will be able to gain many things. We are ready to give you what you want.

Characteristics of the section

On weekday afternoons, we provide various specialized outpatient clinics (refractive correction -cross-linking, LASIK, uveal disease, macular disease, pediatric ophthalmology, low vision care, corneal disease, heterotropia / amblyopia, cataracts, lacrimal duct). In addition to general ophthalmology, we are in an environment where you can learn subspecialties.
We also perform about 2500 surgical treatments annually. The surgery department and ward staff work together to provide the best and safest medical care. A major feature of our department is that the number of doctors who can perform retinal vitreous surgery is one of the highest in Japan, and we are always ready for emergency surgery such as retinal detachment.
Under the guidance of Professor Senoo, our department has an environment in which we can calmly engage in medical care and research. Our philosophies are "Providing the best, safest and most secure medical care", "Cooperative and convincing medical care", "Working hard for improvement", and "Challenge to see". We always strive to do the best we possibly can.
