We professionalize the students’ knowledge and skills (the theory and practice) of public health nursing. Public health nursing is an academic field consisting of administrative nursing, occupational nursing, and school nursing, which aims to improve the health and QOL of the people at all levels of health status, living in the community. Also, in order to promote the Integrated Community Care System, we try to foster nursing professionals with an interdisciplinary perspective and a sustainable perspective of collaboration among multi-disciplinary and multi-institutions.
1. Administration of Public Health and Welfare
The students learn and understand the origins of Japan's health, medical and welfare administration, which are the basis of health support and health disability support activities, including legal, social and economic backgrounds. In this course, students will learn about various social resources and an overview of administrative service organizations.
2. School and Occupational Health Nursing
The students learn and understand the principles and grounds of school health and occupational health activities, as well as the human resources responsible for those activities. In school health, the target audience is children, school students, university students, teachers. In occupational health, adults and middle-aged workers are mainly industrial workers. In each case, they will learn about maintaining and improving health and responding to health issues.
3. Public Health Nursing
Public health nursing is for the people of all ages and health levels living in the community. In this course, the students will learn the Philosophy of Public Health Nursing, and identify the subjects based on the characteristics of health issues, and the students will understand the outline of public health promotion activities.
4. Methodologies of Public Health Nursing
In this subject, the students will learn about public health nursing techniques performed by public health nurses. We provide the methodologies of health guidance, home-visit, health education, group/district organization activities, etc. They learn about required competency (skills and knowledge) for public health nurses to provide support for individuals, families, specific groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous in the field of communities, industries, and schools.
5. Publich Health Nursing Management
In this subject, the students will understand the outline of nursing management in public health nursing activities and learn the basics of management methods. Also, they will study the association between health measures and management under the jurisdiction of the public health center for Practicum in Public Health Nursing.
6. Community Assessment
The students will study community health diagnosis, which is the basis of public health nursing activities, and health services (health counseling, home visit, health education and district organization activities and so on) to solve health problems.
7. Practicum in Public Health Nursing
The students will deepen their understanding of public health nursing to address all health issues of the local people and learn the basic abilities for practicing nursing activities.
Nursing Education Center for Community Collaboration:「Mum & Dad Café」
This is an activity to support child-rearing in different cultures for foreign mothers, fathers and their children living in Japan.
Motivational Interviewing online workshop (held regularly)“Online MI: Super Introduction”
Once every two months (roughly the fourth Saturday afternoon of odd months), this activity aims to improve the abilities for support of professions those assist persons (nursing, education, welfare, judicial, and other assistance workers) with demonstrations and exercises on how to communicate to relieve changes in health behavior and refusal to support and so on.
